You will need your PIN to complete the survey using the online tool or the app. Please make sure to save it in a convenient location.
Make sure all household information has been provided: through the online tool accessible via the login page, over the phone with our call center, or via mailed materials.
Completing travel diary via smartphone app?
Download the appropriate mobile app (click image below):
When prompted, please allow the app to temporarily use your phone’s location and motion sensors. This will allow the app to more accurately determine stops.
Then login to the app using your PIN.
Finally, select the person who will be using the app from the list of household members.
When your travel date starts, your stops will automatically begin to display on the “Stop List” page which is accessible by clicking on the “Review Stops” button.
Completing travel diary: online, over the phone, or via mailed diary?
If you are completing your travel diary in any of these three ways, there is little you need to do before your travel date.
Memory Jogger (optional).
Regardless of how you choose to participate, you may want to use a “Memory Jogger” sheet to help remind you of the stops you made on your travel date. You can download one here. When filling out your travel diary, you will be asked questions like: the purpose of each of your stops, how you got there, how long you were there, and how many people traveled with you.
Google Timeline for Trip Entry (optional):
Accurate reporting of all trip locations and times is critical - even if they seem unimportant. Google Maps (Timeline) trip information provides an alternative to reporting trips by memory or downloading and using the the travel app for this project.
To do this, simply follow these 3 steps:
Before your survey date: On your smartphone, tap the Settings icon, tap Privacy, tap Location Services (iPhone) or Google Location History (Android), tap Google Maps (iPhone) or Google Location History (Android), and then select Always under Allow Location Access (iPhone) or On under Location History (Android).
During your survey date: Make sure your smartphone is on and with you so that your trips are recorded.
After your survey date: On your smartphone, tap the Google Maps icon, tap the circled initial at the top right corner of the screen, tap Your Timeline, tap Today, and then select your travel month and day in the calendar. If your travel date is crossed out, that means Google did not have access to your location information on that date – please complete your travel survey from memory. If trips are shown for your travel date, enter them into your online survey diary, correcting any mistakes that you notice.
Please only enter information for trips you have already completed.
Do not enter information for future travel.
Completing travel diary via smartphone app?
You can answer questions regarding your stops once they pop up on the stop list view, or you can wait until the day after your travel.
The app will automatically capture your trips for you, but you may want to take some notes throughout the day.
You may need to edit a few stops or delete stops that aren’t true destinations, such as traffic lights or stop signs.
You will also need to answer questions including how and with whom you traveled and the purpose of your travel.
Completing travel diary online through the login page?
You can enter stop questions as you go, but it might be more convenient to enter your trips after you are done traveling for the day.
Once logged in to the online tool, go to the tab at the top marked “Step 3 – Travel Diaries”.
Select a household member in order to enter, review or edit their travel day stops.
Completing travel diary over the phone with our call center?
One of our representatives will give you a call to collect your travel information on the day after your travel date. You may also give us a call at 1-844-755-8511 to report your travel after all travel has been completed.
REMINDER
For the data to be valid, ALL household members must participate in the 24-hr travel survey on the same assigned travel day AND complete the trip review process. If all household members don’t complete the survey on the same assigned travel date, call us and we can assign you a new travel date.
